Found Object Sculpture Conny Hatch

  • July 13 - 15, Monday through Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm
  • 3 sessions, $200
  • At Pamet Crossing

We will learn how to assemble found, reclaimed and recycled objects into fine and fantastic sculptures. We will free our imaginations and think outside the "box" to create free-standing and hanging masterpieces from a variety of raw materials. We'll learn how to safely and carefully attach and secure materials together for strength and durability with a variety of tools and hardware. Bring your silly and vast imaginations for some serious fun.

Conny Hatch is an artist who had the great fortune of having her dad teach her how to use all kinds of hand and power tools from a very young age. After studying art with a concentration on ceramics at the Maine College of Art and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, she moved to Provincetown in 1998. A 1999 Castle Hill sculpture workshop with Paul Bowen turned her interest towards working with found and reclaimed materials to create lively and unique sculptures. She has created over 160 sculptures to date which are in collections in the US and England. In 2007 Conny was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in support of her pursuit of her art. Conny's work can be seen at the Kobalt Gallery in Provincetown.

Diorama and Nest Julia Salinger

  • July 20 - 23, Monday - Thursday from 2pm - 4pm
  • 4 sessions, $275
  • At Pamet Crossing

Albert Einstein said that "Imagination is more important than Knowledge."

I would say that the imagination is the portal into the soul. We will use this idea as a way to guide us in creation of our unique fantasy constructions. Have you ever dreamed of building your own nest? Someplace magical and fun that is a true expression of yourself. Together we will use manmade and organic materials to construct a special place of one's own.

Come to class with some of your favorite small objects, natural materials and lots of energy. Let's go wild exploring!!!!

Julia Salinger’s varied art career began as an art historian. Her mentor, Irving Sandler, was the preeminent art scholar who wrote 'The Triumph of American Painting. She studied at Columbia University and worked for Ronald Feldman Fine Arts. During this period, she was accepted into the prestigious curatorial program at the Hirschorn Museum in Washington, DC. She has worked at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Design, the Guggenheim, The Neuberger Museum and the Whitney. After a few life changing experiences, she decided it was time to nourish her own creative spirit. In 1999 she started to create her own work. Since 2000, she has shown in numerous group shows and is represented in collections in the US, Europe and Asia

Pinhole for All Ages Martin R. Anderson

  • August 17 - 21, Monday – Friday from 9am - noon
  • 5 Sessions, $375+ $15 lab fee
  • At Castle Hill

A fun photography class for all ages! Cameras created from everyday objects like tin cans will be loaded with photographic paper on which to record images which will come to life using basic darkroom techniques. This is a simple, hands-on way to understand photography that can produce surprisingly dynamic and beautiful images. No previous photographic experience is necessary (although experienced photographers may relish the opportunity to explore and play outside the usual boundaries.) An ideal class for parents and kids to take together.

Martin R. Anderson has worked extensively with alternative photography over the past seven years, with over 40 pinhole cameras of his own making. In July of 2005, Martin received a fellowship for a three-week Artist-In-Residency at C-Scape dune shack in Provincetown where he created a portfolio of pinhole landscapes and self-portraits. In 2006, his pinhole photograph, "Paris, Tulieries: Alexandre combatant" won First Place in Art & Antiques Magazine's annual photography contest. During the year he leads classes in Pinhole Photography at the Brookline Center for Adult & Community Education.
