MBL to offer Seashore Science Classes for Kids
Coastal Explorers seashore adventures planned for the summer
The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) Club invites children ages 4, 5, and 6 to explore the Woods Hole coastline this summer in the “Coastal Explorers” seashore adventure class. Led by experienced Montessori educators, the classes are designed to teach children learn about native species of fish and invertebrates in Woods Hole. Each session includes a visit to the Woods Hole Science Aquarium or to the MBL’s Marine Resource Center, as well as a variety of hands-on marine activities, including collecting shells and water samples at a local beach and participating in associated art projects and musical activities.

All classes will run from 10 AM to 2 PM in the MBL Club, 100 Water Street, Woods Hole. The fees per session are $80 for MBL Club Members, MBL Associates, and MBL employees and $100 for unaffiliated families.
Three Part I sessions and two Part II sessions will be offered. Part II classes provide a more in-depth exploration of our coastal environment and are designed for children who have completed Part I.
Applications are still being accepted for Part II: Session 1 (July 21 and 23);Part II: Session 2 (August 4 and 6); and Part I: Session 3 (August 11 and 13).
The MBL Club opened for its 90th season on June 22. It serves the MBL and Woods Hole communities as a recreational, cultural, and family center. In addition to Coastal Explorers, weekly activities that it hosts include folk singing, exercise classes, yoga classes, arts and crafts, an orchestra, tennis clinics, and movie nights. Special events such as a storyteller, a rainforest reptile show, a singing group, a pottery presentation, a book talk, and an ice cream social are also scheduled.
