Wal-Mart of Falmouth provides support for CCCC’s College Connection Program at Falmouth High School

Program's goal to increase number of high school graduates pursuing higher education

Ted Burt (L) Director of Community Relations for Wal-Mart of East Falmouth presents a $1,000 check to Lisa Fedy(C), Director of the College Connection Program at Cape Cod Community College and John Miller (R), Chair of the Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation.  Funds will help the College continue serving Falmouth High School seniors in its College Connection Program piloted at FHS in 2007.

Support from Wal-Mart of East Falmouth’s community relations program will help high school seniors at Falmouth High School better prepare for further study after graduation through Cape Cod Community College’s College Connection Program. A recent $1,000 donation by the store will help underwrite the College’s outreach effort that brings a comprehensive array of college pre-admission services to Falmouth High School seniors, free of charge.

Since 2007, professionals from CCCC have brought a detailed overview of the college admissions process/deadlines, college readiness assessment, financial aid counseling, academic advising, and registration assistance directly into the high school. The program’s goal is to increase the number of high schools seniors going on to further education after graduation, and over the past two years it has shown significant success at Falmouth High School and at other high schools in the program: Barnstable, Bourne, Dennis-Yarmouth, Upper Cape Tech, Cape Cod Tech, Harwich, Chatham, and Nauset Regional.

Since 2006, Falmouth High school has seen steady increases in the number of students going on to further study. In 2006, 85% of the graduating class entered higher education of some kind. For the Class of 2008 the number had risen to 89%.

The College is extremely grateful for the external support given by Wal-Mart of Falmouth. In these difficult financial times, community support is key to maintaining these outstanding services that have already shown great success.
