May pronouced "PeaceBuilders" month in Bourne

Town selectmen and school committee to take the PeaceBuilders Pledge

The Selectmen and the School Committee in Bourne have proclaimed May PeaceBuilders Month and will be taking the PeaceBuilders Pledge at each meeting this month.

PeaceBuilders is a research-validated violence prevention and character education youth program. It is a comprehensive community-based program that shifts the entire organizational climate to a peaceful, productive, and safe place for children, parents, and the community.

The Selectmen and School Committee are asking community organizations and local businesses to support PeaceBuilders Month by posting and saying the PeaceBuilders Pledge with their organization and/or co-workers on a daily basis or by sponsoring or funding PeaceBuilders workshops, children's events, and implementation tools and materials for our schools.

You can learn more about PeaceBuilders Month by visiting www.bourne.k12.ma.us. For more information, contact Dr. Joyce Harrington, Assistant Superintendent or Jane Norton, Health Dept. Head.

WHEREAS, PeaceBuilders is a comprehensive community based program that shifts the entire organizational climate to a peaceful, productive and safe place for children parents and the community, and

WHEREAS,  the success of a violence prevention program is directly linked to the extent of a community wide commitment to end bullying and harassment,

NOW, THEREFORE, we the School Committee of the Town of Bourne as the governing body for the Bourne Public Schools proclaim the month of May to be PeaceBuilders Month and urge all community groups meeting within the month of May to cite the PeaceBuilders Pledge as a symbol of our commitment to eliminate, reduce and prevent bullying within our community.
